Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has underscored the importance of stronger air connectivity between Ghana and other African countries in driving trade, business and regional integration.

According to her, the relaunch of African World Airlines’ (AWA) Accra–Abidjan route presents an opportunity to deepen economic ties between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire while facilitating greater movement of people and goods.

Madam Affo-Toffey made the remarks in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where she represented the Minister for Transport at the relaunch of the route.

She said restoring the direct air connection was strategically important to Ghana’s efforts to position itself as a major aviation hub on the continent.

The Deputy Minister explained that improved air connectivity would strengthen business relationships, facilitate travel and trade, and contribute to the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“Routes linking Ghana to other African destinations are critical to advancing regional integration and expanding intra-African trade,” she said.

Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro in the Western Region, noted that reliable connections between African cities would make it easier for businesses and travellers to access opportunities across the continent.

She commended AWA for its continued contribution to connecting Ghana with other African destinations and supporting the growth of intra-African travel and commerce.

The Deputy Transport Minister expressed confidence that the restored Accra–Abidjan route would strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire while promoting increased commercial and people-to-people exchanges.

She stressed that the development of Ghana’s aviation sector remained an important component of the government’s broader vision of positioning the country as a leading aviation hub in Africa.

Madam Affo-Toffey described the relaunch as more than the restoration of a flight connection, saying it represents an important bridge between the economies, businesses and people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

The route is expected to provide travellers and businesses with an additional convenient air link between the two West African countries while supporting efforts to improve regional connectivity and deepen intra-African trade.
