The Ministry of the Interior has called on Ghanaians to exercise extreme caution and limit movement following heavy rains that caused flooding in several parts of the country on Monday morning.

The Ministry in a warned that floodwaters can rise rapidly, posing serious risks to life and property. Members of the public have been strongly advised to remain where they are—whether at home, work, or other safe locations—until conditions improve.

“Members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided,” the statement read.

Motorists and pedestrians were specifically cautioned against attempting to cross flooded roads, bridges, or waterways.

The Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency responders have been deployed to monitor the situation, manage traffic, assist affected persons, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.

Residents in flood-prone communities have been advised to relocate to higher ground where safe and to promptly report any emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security or emergency service.

The statement further emphasised the need for calm and cooperation with authorities.

“The Ministry urges the public to remain calm, cooperate with the directives of security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official channels for information and updates,” it said.

Emergency hotlines provided for assistance include:

  • Ghana Police Service: 18555 or 112
  • Ghana National Fire Service: 192
  • NADMO: 112

The advisory was issued by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

“The safety and well-being of the public remain Government’s highest priority. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary,” the Minister’s statement concluded. “The Ministry extends its concern to all persons affected by the flooding and assures the public that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and ensure public safety.”

As of the time of this report, no comprehensive assessment of damage or casualties has been released by authorities. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official government and emergency service channels.
