The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country.
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) protested the delay in the release of funds for the procurement of perishable foods for the SHS and TVET schools.
Authorities had resolved not to reopen the various SHSs and Technical Schools until the release of the funds.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations for GES, Daniel Fenyi, however, confirmed that the financial bottleneck regarding these essential supplies has been resolved.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the general public, particularly stakeholders in the education sector, that the outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High/Technical Schools across the country have been released to the Service.
Management has initiated processes to ensure the efficient distribution of these funds to the various schools,” he assured in the statement.
The statement continued that GES has already initiated the necessary logistical processes to ensure that the funds are distributed to the various schools efficiently and without delay.
The Service also emphasized that strict monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been established to ensure accountability.
“Monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the funds are utilised judiciously and solely for their intended purpose,” GES said.
These measures are designed to guarantee that the funds are utilized judiciously and spent solely on their intended purpose (perishable food items).
GES reaffirmed its “unwavering dedication” to the welfare of students, noting that the timely release of these funds is part of a broader commitment to improving educational outcomes nationwide.
“Management of the Service assures all stakeholders of its unwavering dedication to the welfare of students and the continuous improvement of educational outcomes across the country,” the statement concluded.
This release of funds is expected to bring significant relief to school heads and suppliers who have been navigating challenges related to the supply of fresh food items in second-cycle institutions.
