The Ghana Education Service (GES) has defended the 2025 WASSCE results, describing them as a credible reflection of students’ academic performance and a demonstration of restored examination integrity.
This follows comments by former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, who suggested that unsupportive management practices contributed to the poor performance.
In a statement on Monday, December 1, 2025, rejected the assertion while calling on the public to debunk it.
“GES urges the public to disregard the statements made by the former Minister, Dr. Adutwum regarding the 2025 WASSCE results and treat them as an attempt to shift focus from his shortcomings in managing the examination process,” the statement said.
GES clarified that no teacher allowances were cancelled, contrary to claims by Dr. Adutwum, noting that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) had provided reasons for the non-payment of November allowances.
GES highlighted that the 2025 WASSCE was conducted under “heightened invigilation, strengthened supervision, and strict adherence to examination protocols across all centres,” adding that these measures successfully curtailed potential malpractice.
“It is essential to appreciate that the outcome is a direct demonstration of the trend towards restoring integrity of the examination process. A credible examination system serves the best interest of our students, our schools, and the nation,” the statement added.
The Service emphasized that the results provide a true representation of candidates’ abilities and that it remains committed to maintaining high standards in examinations.
Management also urged students to prepare diligently for the upcoming international WASSCE, set for May/June 2026, which will be administered across all West African member countries.
GES concluded by reaffirming its commitment to collaboration with stakeholders, including heads of schools, teachers, parents, communities, Civil Society Organisations, and WAEC, to enhance teaching, learning, and the integrity of examinations.
