The Ghana Publishing Company is to begin security printing in the country, the Managing Director of the company, Mr David Boateng Asante has said.
Speaking on Morning Starr on Monday, Mr Boateng said Ghana Publishing has seen transformation under his leadership since he took over in 2017.
The Ghana Publishing Company also known as the Assembly Press, recently launched a new production unit.
The unit has five-speed master colour machines, known in the printing industry as the Perfect Binder, a two-colour speed master machine and a cutting-edge folding machine.
They were procured from the company’s internally generated funds.
Mr Boateng told host Francis Abban that the company is ready to print ballot papers for the 2020 elections and ready to enter into security printing.
“I am still trying to understand why printing of ballot papers fizzle into the hands of private printing firms. By law, we are supposed to print sensitive government documents and ensure gazetting. I am still trying to understand why printing of ballot papers fizzle into the hands of private printing firms. I’m a political figure but that does not affect anything. My predecessor was contesting for NDC primaries but the firm still printed documents for the EC,” Mr Boateng said.
He added “We are paid for the printing of the budget. When you come into our offices today, you’ll see that we’ve invested much into infrastructure.”
Security printing deals with the printing of items such as banknotes, cheques, passports, tamper-evident labels, security tapes, product authentication, stock certificates, postage stamps and identity cards.
It combines various features such as holograms, codes, fine line security patterns, variable line thickness, ghost watermarks and micro text.
