The Global Security for Africa Research and Good Governance, (GLOSARGG) has backed the calls for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addision.
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has attributed its 60 billion Ghana cedis loss to a series of factors.
According to the BoG, one of the factors is the government’s 2022 budget, which it argues failed to address fiscal concerns resulting in the country’s blockage from the capital market.
This follows revelations by the Minority questioning the bank’s 2022 expenditure including a 250 million dollars contract for the construction of new headquarters for the Central Bank.
Commenting on the development on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, the Executive Secretary for GLOSARGG, Francis Ahovi stated that the Governor should act on the calls for his resignation.
“Dr. Ernest Addison’s explanation is highly abysmal and below the belt. You are appointed in order to manage the affairs of an institution so that there will be a benefit or proceeds that will benefit the entire populace. It is uncalled for if you are just to give an explanation after drilling down the institution.
“If this is how governance is then everybody can do so. We are not saying perhaps one person has taken that money for him or herself but a fund that is not for you but for the state or institution should pass through due diligence before they are spent,” Mr. Ahovi stated.
He continued: “If you are caught or there is no transparency at the end of it all, if things go wrong I don’t think that explanation is enough. Already where we are, we are afraid. We don’t know where we are in terms of the economy. So his explanation is not accepted and it will never be accepted. If I were him this is an opportunity to just resign and then later the law will take its course.”
