Dr. Peter Anti Partey, Executive Director of the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST), has called on the National Teaching Council (NTC) to impose stricter professional sanctions on teachers implicated in misconduct, following the interdiction of Joshua Vidzro, headmaster of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, December 8, Dr. Partey said, “When a teacher goes contrary to professional ethics, the Teaching Council can initiate an investigation and withhold licenses to prevent them from teaching in another school.”
He stressed that simple measures such as demotion or transfers are insufficient, noting, “Relying solely on demotion or transfer… simply moves the problem to another school.”
Dr. Partey emphasized the trust and power teachers hold over students, underscoring the need for regulatory bodies to bar offenders from roles where they could potentially harm children.
The comments follow the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) directive ordering Mr. Vidzro to step aside from his duties at the school with immediate effect. The decision, issued on Saturday, December 6, 2025, comes amid allegations of the headmaster’s involvement in sexual misconduct with some female students.
Mr. Vidzro has been instructed to formally hand over all official duties, responsibilities, records, and property under his custody to the Municipal Director of Education for Ketu North.
He is expected to vacate the school premises on Monday, December 8, after completing the handover, while remaining available to assist authorities with the investigation.
