Nana Yaw Addo, the Akwatia Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the party is committed to preserving the legacy of the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, who passed away on Monday, July 7.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Tuesday, July 8, Mr. Addo acknowledged that while it will be challenging, the party is determined to honour the memory and efforts of the late MP.
We have work to do. And that is why we are elected and appointed as leaders, it’s not just about the constituency, we have regional leadership and we have the national party, this is bigger than us. We know we will get the needed support from the region and from the national party. And as local leaders in the constituency, we are committed to making sure that Ernest Kumi’s foils struggles over the past years will not go in vain,” he said.
He added, “And as much as it’s going to be very difficult, we know how to do the best. So we will maintain that legacy. It will be difficult, but it’s not impossible. So we are already in motion in terms of putting the ranks and files together to support how we progress on this matter.”
Mr. Kumi, widely known as the “Akwatia Star Boy,” reportedly died of a suspected heart attack. While family sources have indicated a cardiac-related incident, an official medical confirmation is still awaited.
His sudden death comes at a time when he was facing legal challenges related to his election in the fiercely contested December 2024 polls, in which he secured the Akwatia seat for the NPP.
