Sammy Gyamfi sues Afia Schwarzenegger for GH¢10m over defamation

Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has filed a GH¢10 million defamation suit against Afia Schwarzenegger over false claims of property purchases and romantic affairs.

Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, has taken legal action against outspoken media personality, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, widely known as Afia Schwarzenegger, demanding GH¢10 million in damages for defamation.

Filed at the High Court on Wednesday, July 23, the lawsuit accuses Afia Schwarzenegger of spreading false and malicious claims intended to tarnish Mr. Gyamfi’s personal and professional image.

Central to the suit are allegations made by Afia Schwarzenegger that Mr. Gyamfi had purchased property in the United States for his wife and her supposed sister.

Mr. Gyamfi flatly denies the claims, stating not only that he has never acquired property abroad for his wife or any relative, but also clarifying that “his wife does not even have a sister named Vida,” as falsely stated by the defendant.

The plaintiff also rejected assertions that he was romantically involved with female students at the University of Ghana or had bought vehicles for girlfriends.

He insists that the allegations are entirely fabricated and deliberately designed to paint him as immoral and untrustworthy.

Mr. Gyamfi claims that Afia Schwarzenegger made the statements knowing they were false or, at the very least, showed reckless disregard for the truth.

As a result of her comments, he says he has endured widespread public scrutiny and faced difficult inquiries from senior officials, political associates, friends, and family across the globe.

In the suit, Mr. Gyamfi is requesting the court to grant:

  • General damages for defamation,
  • A perpetual injunction preventing Afia Schwarzenegger from repeating or spreading the defamatory claims,
  • Exemplary damages of GH¢10 million,
  • A public retraction and unqualified apology, to be published in three consecutive editions of the Daily Graphic and posted on TikTok and other platforms where the original statements were made,
  • Legal costs, including counsel fees,
  • And any additional relief the court deems appropriate.

The suit was filed by Saani Mahmoud Abdul-Rasheed of Sustineri Attorneys PRUC in Accra.
