The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba has clarified that six top officers were directed to step aside due to an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) and the BNI.

In a statement, the Council said its directive is “without prejudice to the outcome of the issues raised at the Courts” and has since called on the public to crosscheck their facts before arriving at a conclusion.

“Our mandate, inter alia, is to protect public funds and property and also to ensure judicious use of funds received from both the central government and internally generated funds,” the Council said.

Below is the full statement:

PRESS RELEASE

The Governing Council of University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken notice of various opinions being expressed on the on-going litigation at both the Winneba High Court and Supreme Court.

We wish to put on record that the recent decision of the Governing Council to request six (6) of our officers to step aside was purely in respect of the on-going investigations by EOCO, 13N1 and the Governing Council.

The officers are: 1. Prof. Mawutor Avoke, Vice-Chancellor, 2. Dr. Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie, Finance Officer, 3. Mr. Frank Owusu Boateng, Deputy Finance Officer, 4. Ms. Sena Dake, Internal Auditor. 5. Ms. Mary Dzimey, Ag. Head of Procurement, 6. Ing. Daniel Tetteh, Ag. Deputy Director of Works & Physical Development.

The stepping aside is without prejudice to the outcome of the issues raised at the Courts referred to above. We urge the general public to crosscheck their facts before making pronouncements on the decisions taken by the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba.

Our mandate, inter alia, is to protect public funds and property and also to ensure judicious use of funds received from both the central government and internally generated funds.

Thank you.

Prof. Emmanuel Nicholas Abakah, PhD
Governing Council Chair
