Students of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) have on Friday, October 13, hit the streets again to protest against the citing of a fuel station just behind the school.
The move by the students comes on the back of the atomic junction gas explosion that has so far claimed 7 lives with more than 130 people injured.
President Akufo-Addo on Thursday ordered immediate shutdown of high risk Liquefied Petroleum Gas stations across the country after a cabinet meeting held same day over the dreadful explosion.
Also, the government following the meeting further ordered the “immediate cessation” of all construction of facilities intended for use as gas or petroleum retail stations.
The new directive is “until further notice” as government rolls out safety and regulatory measures to save lives and properties in the wake of the Atomic Junction gas explosion.
Monitoring the development for Starr News, Josephine Asabea Akonor reports of a charged atmosphere with the students demanding government to intervene in relocating the Sel Filing Station which they say poses danger to them.
The SRC vice president said in an interview with Akornor that they will continue to protest until their demand is met.
“If we don’t hear anything positive after two weeks, we will go back again until they are actually do something about,” said Evans Oha.
He said they planned on petitioning the office of the president on their demand later in the day.
