Wave Africa clarifies misunderstandings about the absence of Shatta Wale

Wave Africa, a prominent youth-focused marketing and communication agency, has issued a statement to address the misconceptions surrounding the cancellation of the Reunion Rave Artiste Night, an event organized in collaboration with TF Hostels.

The controversy began when Wave Africa was approached two months ago by the executives of Jean Topp Nelson Yankah Hall to organize the event and secure an artist for the night. After two months of deliberations, a formal contract was signed on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Following the agreement, Wave Africa successfully negotiated a deal with the acclaimed artist Shatta Wale to perform, and promotional materials were promptly released to the public.

However, on Friday, June 7, 2024, an unexpected online communique from the Dean of Students’ Office announced the event’s cancellation. Wave Africa immediately contacted the hall executives responsible for securing the venue, who reassured them that the issues with the Dean of Students’ Office had been resolved.

Trusting these assurances, Wave Africa continued with their event preparations, including arranging additional security measures with law enforcement to ensure a safe and incident-free night.

The situation took another turn on Saturday, June 8, 2024, when Legon campus security interrupted the setup and sound check, citing “orders from above.”

A delegation from Wave Africa met with the Dean of Students and was informed that while the event could proceed, Shatta Wale would not be permitted to perform. Complying with this directive, Wave Africa adjusted the event accordingly.

Wave Africa has expressed their surprise and disappointment at the last-minute restriction on Shatta Wale’s performance. While the artiste night itself was not cancelled, the absence of Shatta Wale was a significant letdown for fans.

“We deeply apologize to the fans for not being able to deliver Shatta Wale’s performance as promised,” the statement from Wave Africa read. “We have referred the matter to our legal team and are making efforts to reach out to all stakeholders involved.”
