Black Queens defender, Rosemary Ampem, is optimistic her side has what it takes to dethrone champions the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations which starts Saturday.
Ghana are in Group B with favourites Nigeria as they defend their title in the 2016 AFCON and will take on Nigeria on Wednesday in the second group match of the tournament.
Ghana are also grouped along with Mali and Kenya in Group B. Group A has the (Cameroon) Lioness, South Africa, Egypt and Zimbabwe.
Speaking ahead of the game against Kenya, Ampem pointed out that playing in front of Cameroonians will be another advantage to her side’s quest of winning their first ever African women’s title.
“I believe in the ability of my colleagues and I know definitely this year, we will win the trophy for the first time,” Ampem told Starr Sports.
“There has been massive improvement in the team, and definitely, we expect to do better. There are still a few things to do before the tournament and I believe we will firm up to be 100% ready.
“Every team that has qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is strong. We cannot underrate anyone. I am expecting very tough matches against all our opponents. I can’t pick up one and say we will look out for them,” Ampem added.
