The Ghana Youth Manifesto (GYM) Core Team, under the auspices of other youth-focused Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), have launched the Ghana Youth Manifesto to influence the manifestoes of political parties towards the 2024 general elections and beyond.

The event, which took place on Microsoft Teams – virtual platform, formed part of efforts to ensure the participation of Ghanaian youths in decision-making processes on national development and youth-related policies.

Speaking at the launch, Anthony Caid, a member of the organising team, indicated that, the programme aligns with the provision of the African Youth Charter which enjoins African Union (AU) member states to involve the youth in governance and decision-making processes.

“The youths form a majority of the national population and Article 11.2a of the African Youth Charter entreats AU member states to “guarantee the participation of youth in Parliament and other decision- making bodies in accordance with the prescribed laws”, he said.

Aside the fact that national, continental and international instruments encourages

Inclusivity, that seems not to be so in Ghana and many other Africa countries, Speaking on the Ghana Youth Manifesto and the Survey, Mr. Ali Ibraheem stresses on the need for young people’s voices to be heard “but this cannot be on a silver platter, it must be through intensive and quality research with facts and figures to back the document” he said.

In order to come out with a holistic document, Christopher Wisdom Penu, the Project Coordinator, noted that a “two-week survey window will follow the launch to collect data from Ghanaian youths between 15-35 years age bracket, from October 12 to 26, 2023 which will inform the content of the GYM”, he said.

The event, which was championed by CSOs such as the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), Oxfam in Ghana, Youth Advocates Ghana among others, was attended by youths from diverse backgrounds to drive home the youth inclusion advocacy.

The Ghana Youth Manifesto(GYM) is a Youth led initiative to voice out the aspirations and needs of young Ghanaians as we approach the 2024 General Elections.
