#ElectionHub: NPP refutes NDC’s allegations of 500k ballot papers in Ashanti region

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communication for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has firmly rejected allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) concerning the discovery of 50,000 ballot papers in the Ashanti Region. He labeled the claims as baseless and part of a deliberate strategy to mislead the public.

On December 7, just before the close of polls, the NDC’s National Organizer, Joseph Yamin, held a press conference where he alleged that 500K ballot papers had been discovered in an isolated room in the Ashanti Region. The NDC insinuated that these papers were connected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and part of an effort to manipulate election results.

In response, Dennis Miracles Aboagye dismissed the claims as unfounded. Speaking at a press briefing later that day, he stated that the location cited by the NDC did not align with their descriptions and that no credible evidence had been provided to substantiate the allegations. “Our checks indicate that the alleged ballot papers were not found at the location they mentioned. It is typical of the NDC to engage in such irresponsible behavior, spreading falsehoods to cause unnecessary tension,” he said.

Aboagye criticized the NDC for what he described as a calculated attempt to mislead the public. “It is baffling to witness the NDC continue with such actions. They held a press conference at around 4:30 pm, alleging that their Ashanti Regional Organizer had found 500K ballot papers hidden by the NPP. But their claims are completely false,” he added.

He also questioned the credibility of the video evidence presented by Joseph Yamin, highlighting inconsistencies in the narrative. “In the video, we only see Joseph Yamin holding his phone and speaking on camera, but there was no sign of resistance from anyone at the location, no owner of the house present, and no explanation as to how he found the papers. The entire story seems staged and raises doubts about the NDC’s intentions,” Aboagye stated.

The NPP has suggested that the evidence might have been fabricated by the NDC to disrupt the electoral process. They have called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and clarify the situation. “We believe that the police must investigate Joseph Yamin’s claims fully to ensure that the integrity of the electoral process is preserved,” Aboagye concluded.

The NPP expressed confidence in its electoral prospects and emphasized the importance of transparent collation and declaration of results by the Electoral Commission. Meanwhile, police in the Ashanti Region have reportedly discovered and seized the alleged fake ballot papers from a private residence in the Kwadaso constituency.
