Global music icon, Rocky Dawuni, has shared a powerful message on spiritual unity and human connection, declaring that he sees God in every person; regardless of race, tribe, or nationality.
The Grammy-nominated artist made the remarks during an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Starr 103.5 FM on Thursday, July 17, 2025, where he reflected on his spiritual journey and the beliefs that continue to shape his music and worldview.
“That’s why when I see everybody, it’s like my brother,” Dawuni said. “I don’t see tribal differences. I don’t see racial differences. I don’t see national differences; because I see God in everybody.”
Dawuni explained that his spirituality began at an early age and has remained central to his personal life and artistry. At just seven years old, he started a church with other children in the military barracks where he lived.
“I actually started a church when I was a kid in the barrack. I was like 7 years old… I got all the kids to go and cut like palm fronds and they built the church in the back. I would gather them and preach from the Bible.”
His religious upbringing included regular Bible reading and participation in Catholic catechism, but his spiritual journey later evolved to include global perspectives. Dawuni shared that he has worshipped at some of the world’s holiest sites, including the Vatican, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Wailing Wall.
“I have had the opportunity of being at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, right to the Well of Souls where Muhammad ascended… I’ve played for the Holy See at the Vatican. My music is informed by spirituality.”

Dawuni said his approach to faith focuses on recognising divine presence in all its diverse forms.
“Spirituality is finding wherever God manifested in God’s diversity. And I try to find God.”
Known for blending reggae, highlife, and soul into his signature Afro Roots sound, Rocky Dawuni continues to use his platform not just to entertain, but to spread messages of peace, identity, and oneness.
