The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended the ongoing military recruitment process following a tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium that left at least six potential recruits dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise when a surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed the gates around 6:20 a.m.
Medical teams have rushed the injured to the 37 Military Hospital, where 12 cases are reported critical and five are currently in the ICU.
In light of the tragedy, GAF announced that the recruitment screening exercise has been postponed.
The Air Force screening will resume tomorrow, Thursday, November 13, while Navy applicants will be screened on Friday, and Army applicants on Saturday. In total, 28 casualties have been reported from the stampede.
Authorities say the temporary suspension will allow a full review of safety protocols to prevent further loss of life.
The Ghana Armed Forces has also extended condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
