President John Dramani Mahama will convene an emergency cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to address the ongoing crisis in Ghana’s cocoa sector.
The announcement was made by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, via a social media post on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The move comes amid mounting public concern over the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) inability to meet some cocoa supply contracts, the sector’s financing challenges, and the impact on farmers’ livelihoods.
Some cocoa farmers have even threatened to sell their farmlands to illegal miners due to the disruptions.
COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer Randy Abbey confirmed the sector is facing significant challenges, including tens of thousands of tonnes of cocoa beans remaining with farmers due to uncompetitive pricing.
The emergency meeting is expected to focus on solutions to stabilize the cocoa market, support farmers, and ensure the sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
