The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed a total of GH₵392,031,851.26 to healthcare providers for services rendered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in December 2025 and January 2026.
According to the Authority, GH₵301,658,338.13 was paid in December 2025, while GH₵90,373,513.13 was released in January 2026.
The payments cover claims that had been thoroughly vetted by the NHIA to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Public and private health facilities received the bulk of the funds, accounting for approximately 80.55% of the total payment.
Mission health facilities received the remaining 19.45%. In nominal terms, public facilities were paid ₵157,164,301.62, private facilities ₵158,630,317.29, and mission facilities GH₵76,237,232.35.
A statement from the NHIA’s Finance Directorate highlighted that these payments are part of the Authority’s ongoing commitment to prompt reimbursement, saying, “The payments reflect the Authority’s resolve to promptly pay claims to enable healthcare providers to continue delivering quality services to NHIS members across the country.”
The NHIA emphasized that timely disbursement of claims is critical to ensuring that health facilities maintain operational efficiency, sustain service delivery, and continue supporting millions of Ghanaians enrolled in the NHIS.
The Authority reiterated that it remains dedicated to monitoring and improving its payment systems to guarantee that healthcare providers are compensated fairly and on schedule, strengthening access to quality healthcare nationwide.
