The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed dispelled rumours of feeding crisis in Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country insisting the the rumours do not reflect the reality on the ground.
Speaking on Morning Star on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, 21, 2026, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the GES, Daniel Fenyi, assured parents and students that the government has taken decisive action to address funding delays.
He said a monitoring team by the GES to the various schools reported otherwise.
“Let me clarify that there’s no feeding crisis in our schools. It hasn’t happened,” Fenyi stated. He explained that the GES leadership regularly conducts unannounced visits to schools nationwide to observe feeding situations and school activities directly, rather than relying on reports filtered through Accra…,” he said.
Mr. Fenyi announced that the GES has disbursed close to GHC 200 million to resolve the concerns raised by school heads regarding outstanding arrears,
These funds, he said, have successfully moved from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education to the GES.
He therefore assured that the various schools are expected to be credited by the close of business today, Tuesday, April 21.
Mr. Fenyi clarified that any subsequent delays in schools receiving the funds would likely be due to individual bank processing times rather than a lack of available credit.
The GES spokesperson emphasized that the monitoring team, led by the Director-General, remains active to ensure that the funds translate into immediate improvements in school pantries.
“We don’t want to sit in Accra and depend on what we are told—rumors, what is reported in the news, and what people say. We want to be able to also see,” he concluded.
