Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress, has stated that demands for accountability in government were driven by Ghanaians and not solely by the NDC.
Speaking on GHToday on GHOne TV, Mr. Suhuyini rejected suggestions that the NDC’s anti-corruption stance was merely political “noise” intended for expediency.
“When the good people of this country demand for accountability, you must resist the temptation to refer to it as noise,” he said during the discussion.
According to him, concerns about accountability and alleged corruption were championed by ordinary Ghanaians, with the NDC only playing its role as a responsible opposition party at the time.
“It was not the NDC that raised the issues of accountability,” he stated. “Indeed, the Ghanaian people championed it.”
Mr. Suhuyini argued that the party would have been irresponsible if it had ignored public concerns over governance and accountability issues.
“As a responsible political party with responsibilities to the state and to the good people of this country, it should have been irresponsible on the part of the NDC to fold its arms and not participate in pointing out government wrongs,” he added.

He maintained that the accountability campaign was “not an NDC fight alone,” describing it instead as “a fight of the good people of this country.”
Mr. Suhuyini further acknowledged that the current NDC administration would also be judged by Ghanaians based on the promises it made regarding accountability and anti-corruption efforts.
“We make promises in relation to accountability. Ghanaians would hold us to those promises we made,” he said, adding that citizens “will not forgive” the government if it fails to deliver.
Addressing concerns over the pace of investigations and prosecutions, he noted that judicial and accountability processes may appear slow, but insisted that work was ongoing behind the scenes.

“We may consider the process slow but it does not mean that work is not ongoing,” he stated.
Mr. Suhuyini expressed confidence that ongoing judicial processes would eventually demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability and the fight against corruption.
