The Ashanti Region is expected to have a second Passport Application Centre by the first quarter of 2027, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced.
The new facility, located at Ashanti Mampong, is intended to ease pressure on the existing centre, which has been strained by the region’s large population and growing demand for passport services.
Mr Ablakwa disclosed this during a working visit to the Passport Application Centre in the Ashanti Region, where he engaged staff and acknowledged the pressure on personnel and equipment.
He said work on the new centre had progressed, expressing optimism that its establishment would reduce the burden on the existing facility and improve access to passport services.
The new office is also expected to reduce the risks and inconvenience associated with applicants travelling long distances to attend scheduled biometric capture appointments.
The Ashanti Mampong facility will add to the seven passport application centres opened last year in the Upper East Region and the six newly created regions as part of efforts to expand access to passport services across the country.

Mr Ablakwa further expressed optimism that the new office, once fully operational, would provide an opportunity for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase its internally generated funds.
The establishment of the additional centre is expected to improve service delivery in the Ashanti Region by bringing passport application services closer to residents and easing congestion at the existing facility.
