The Bono East Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) Thomas Adu Appiah has donated GHC55,000 to all the eleven constituencies in the region.
According to him, the money is to support the upcoming limited registration exercise and the administrative running of the constituencies.
The Regional Chairman popularly known as Big Tommer made the announcement during his speech at NPP regional executives elections held at Jema in Kintampo south over the weekend.
Speaking to host Henry Lord on Naagyei FM, Mr Thomas Adu Appiah stressed the need for the NPP to forge ahead into the 2020 general elections with a united front to improve on the party’s electoral fortunes in the newly created region as its performance over the years has not been anything to write home about.
“In 1992, the NPP boycotted the Parliamentary election, in 1996 out of the 11 constituencies we couldn’t win a single seat, in the year 2000 out of the 11, we won just 1, Techiman South. In the year 2004 we won 2 seats, Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South, in 2008, we won 3 seats Techiman North, Nkoranza North, and Knoranza South. In 2012 we had only one seat out of the 11 constituencies that is Nkoranza North, in 2016 we won 5 seats.
“As I speak today even in two out of the five constituencies we won, we have challenges such that if elections were to be held today and we don’t put our house in order we will struggled to retain the seats. Also some MMDCEs have issues with their constituency executives, some MPs and constituency executives don’t see eye to eye. Surprisingly, most of these appointees were constituency executives. This chronology of our performances over the years shows that we have a lot of work to do in Bono East region ahead of 2020 elections and we can only achieve victory if we join forces in unity.”
Chairman Big Tommer who’s known to be a financier of the party especially in the then Brong Ahafo Region disclosed that he’s working to ensure that he provides all the eleven constituencies with motorbikes by September to facilitate their work.
