Wanderlust Ghana has shared details of their exciting 10,000-kilometer journey through ten nations. From West Africa to Europe, the team crossed borders and travelled to a variety of locations.
In an interview on StarrChat with Bola Ray, on September 12, 2024, the team detailed their route, beginning in Ghana and travelling through a number of African nations, including Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and Mali, before arriving in Europe. “We did Cote d’Ivoire, we did Mali, we did Senegal, Mauritania, Morocco, into Spain,” they stated.
After arriving in Europe, they proceeded through Monaco, Switzerland, France, and finally entered the United Kingdom. “We took right and we did Monaco. Then came back into Switzerland, France, and then crossing to the UK,” they added.
Safety concerns shaped much of their travel, especially in Africa. “We don’t drive during the hours of darkness,” they expmained. However, Europe’s well-lit roads made long drives easier. “In Africa, we sometimes can live at 4am because this is Ghana, you know our country. Cote d’Ivoire, you can live at 4am, Mali you can’t.”
They made it known that Mali was the most riskiest part of their travel. “All the risk is in Mali,” the team admitted. “Crossing borders in West Africa is just crazy, we’re supposed to be eco-wise, it’s supposed to be simple, but individuals and their personal greed. Sometimes you just have to pay and have peace of mind,” they explained.
A member mentioned that frustrations increased at African borders. “At every African border we were frustrated.” Mauritania, specifically, was described as “crazy.” In contrast, the team observed a significant difference at European borders, where passage was nearly seamless. “You didn’t experience that in Europe? There’s no border to Europe,” they expressed, commending the professionalism at the Moroccan border and the ease with which they entered Europe.
“Morocco border, seamless. Very professional. Check you, inspect your car, you go into Askana, boom, you are gone.”
