Government spokesperson, Julius Kwame Anthony, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to reflect on the real reasons behind its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, July 22, Mr Anthony argued that the NPP continues to misunderstand the core purpose of governance.
“Our friends in the New Patriotic Party are not learning,” he said. “My reason for saying this is simple. You didn’t lose the elections because the ends of governance is power and the people decided to take it from you. No.”
According to him, the true purpose of governance is not merely holding on to power but delivering on the socio-economic needs of citizens and strengthening democratic institutions.
“The ends of governance is delivering on the socio-economic needs of the people and deepening the democratic credentials of this government; to make this place a place where young people want to continue to stay, and people from other jurisdictions will dream and aspire of being in,” he explained.

He stressed that since Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat on December 8, 2024, it has become clear that the NPP remains under what he described as a “tantalising illusion” that governance is only about political control.
“The ends of government itself is not power. And the loss thereof is not the problem,” he added.
Mr Julius’s remarks come as both major political parties continue to reflect on the outcomes of the last election and the future direction of governance in Ghana.
