Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed gratitude to his campaign team, Members of Parliament, and party leadership as provisional results from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries indicate that he is winning decisively.
Speaking at his office after his campaign team announced that he was leading comfortably with about 56.56 per cent of the provisional vote, Dr. Bawumia thanked those who worked behind the scenes to secure the strong showing.
“I’d like to thank the campaign coordinator as well as the campaign manager, and the campaign team in general. Everybody has contributed so much,” he said, adding that while he could not thank everyone individually at the moment, he would do so in due course.
He reserved special praise for Members of Parliament who supported his bid, describing their role as crucial to his success.
“The MPs, I must say, who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They’ve really supported and they’ve delivered what they promised to do,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia also acknowledged the role of party executives and institutions involved in organising the primaries. “I want to thank also the party executives who have organised this election, the EC, security, media, and all of that,” he said.
Reflecting on the party’s history, the former Vice President said his victory builds on the foundation laid by previous leaders.
“We are standing on the shoulders of former flag bearers of this party… They have built the party and taken the party to this level,” he stated, describing it as “really humbling” to be elected flagbearer to continue their work.
Provisional results from across the country suggest Dr. Bawumia has opened a commanding lead in the race, positioning him strongly as the NPP’s likely flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, pending the official declaration of final results.
