A Ghanaian delegation led by the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has visited Shiyan, a historical and modern city in the northwest of Hubei Province in Central China, as part of efforts to advance reforms and modernise Ghana’s transport sector.
The delegation, which included the Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Kale Cesar Esq., his deputy Haroun Apaw-Wiredu, and other officials from the Ministry of Transport and MMTL, toured key transport manufacturing and technology facilities during the visit.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, and her team visited the Xiangyang Tenglong Automobile Co., Ltd, a major vehicle manufacturing company in China.
The company, which has assets of nearly 1 billion yuan, operates on an estimated area of 444,000 square metres and is equipped with comprehensive production workshops covering stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly processes. It also features over 600 sets of advanced production equipment, including a vehicle electrophoresis line and an EMS automated electric hoist final assembly line.

Its product range includes new energy buses, public and commercial vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, and intelligent transport equipment.
During the visit, the Ghanaian delegation engaged with leading vehicle manufacturers on potential partnerships and the procurement of buses for public transportation in Ghana. The discussions also focused on expanding the national fleet and strengthening technical cooperation with Chinese firms.

The team further inspected Suzhou’s Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) smart electric buses, known for their high passenger capacity and advanced technology, to assess their suitability for Ghana’s road conditions and safety requirements.
The visit forms part of government’s broader efforts to deliver efficient, reliable, and safe public transport systems across the country.
