The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has urged the management of Metro Mass Transit Limited to strengthen its internal revenue generation to support the acquisition of additional buses for its operations.
According to her, generating adequate funds internally would enable the company to procure more buses and improve public transport services across the country.
Madam Affo-Toffey made the remarks in an interview during the commissioning and handing over ceremony of 100 newly acquired buses to Metro Mass Transit in Accra.
“We urged the MMTL to generate enough revenue internally so that it can procure more buses for them,” she stated.

The Deputy Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, said the newly commissioned buses would help ease transportation challenges and congestion in parts of the country.
“When we took over, all the fleet of buses for MMTL were rotten, but these 100 buses will ease the congestion in Ghana,” she said.

Madam Affo-Toffey disclosed that the government was expecting another batch of 100 buses to further strengthen the operations of Metro Mass Transit.
She, however, stressed the need for proper maintenance of the buses to ensure their long-term usability and efficiency.

“Soon, another 100 buses will come, but we urged the MMTL to ensure good maintenance. We know they will maintain them effectively,” she added.
The commissioning and deployment of the buses form part of the government’s broader efforts to improve Ghana’s public transportation system and provide relief for commuters across major cities and transport corridors.
