The Upper East Regional Police Command says a total of 80 suspects arrested during a major intelligence-led anti-crime operation are currently in custody and will soon be put before court.

The week-long operation, which ran from May 25 to June 3, 2026, was conducted with support from the Inspector General of Police’s Special Operations Team. It covered several communities including Bolgatanga, Tongo, Bongo, Nabdam, and Nangodi.

According to police, the coordinated exercise led to multiple arrests across different locations. At Zuarungo in the Bolgatanga Municipality, 12 suspects were arrested comprising eight males and four females, including three Nigerians and one Ghanaian woman.

In the Bongo District, 34 suspects were arrested—32 males and two females.

Separate operations at Pelungu, Kongo, and Nangodi resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects, made up of 12 males and two females.

In the Nabdam District, 20 additional suspects were also picked up.

The Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdul Rahim Sudemana, said preliminary investigations link the suspects to drug peddling, drug consumption, and other criminal activities.

He confirmed that all suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before court to face the full rigors of the law.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has commended the security agencies for the successful operation, noting that it has contributed to a reduction in armed robbery, motorbike snatching, and other crimes in the region.
