The office of the Chief Imam is to set up a committee to ensure compliance of government guidelines as Muslims return to the mosque in the midst of COVID-19.
It comes after some churches including the Maker’s House Chapel announced that their premises will remain closed due to the complexity of guidelines announced for the re-opening of churches.
Speaking to Francs Abban on GhOne TV last night spokesperson for the Chief Imam Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu said Muslims will adhere to the regulation to ensure protection of practitioners.
He, however, acknowledged that it will be difficult to segregate mass congregations.
“Partial easing we anticipated so much because we’ve been complying, but complete easing would have been much more easier for us, then we have the freedom to organise our prayer in line with our traditions but also upholding the preventive protocols.”
“But with the current arrangement, we foresee the difficulty in applying the directives because, one, in our mosque culture, we don’t have the arrangement of registering people to enter into the mosque.”
He went on “two, also the time needed to do all those registrations before the beginning of our prayer is also another. Because we say our prayer at 6 times. Like you go to Techiman which is a market centre and most Muslims come there to pray, they can enter the mosque and say their prayers, so these are difficulties.”
Spelling out greater challenges that abound, he enlisted “now on Friday that’s where we even have the greatest challenge, especially at regional worship centres, where the regional chief Imams lead worships. These are big mosques that attract huge congregation so its herculean to be able to restrain a section of the practitioners from penetrating the mosque.”
“What we have quickly suggested to all the Muslim worship centers is to quickly establish the Covid-19 prevention implementation committee that will ensure certain protocols are put in place within the context of the new directives.,” he noted.
