Salaga South MP slams government over bad roads

Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, a member of parliament for Salaga South, has expressed her displeasure with the government’s attention to the fast-deteriorating roads in the Savannah Region’s East Gonja municipality.

The MP did not hold back while characterizing the roads as “death traps” that put the lives of locals and commuters at risk on a regular basis during a recent inspection tour.

As a result of the severe circumstances, Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah has taken the initiative and obtained funds to fix some of the abandoned roadways. “To salvage the Salaga road, because the 2022 torrential rains have threatened to cut off the people of Salaga, and there’s no way we will sit down and allow that. I had to source funds to make sure that we restored the road to an ultra-modern state. We have done a lot, but there’s still a lot more to be done,” she stated.

The MP has received recognition for her work. Local leaders and citizens have thanked her for her efforts. “But now with this 10-seater ICT, our children have the opportunity to do the practical aspect of work, the ICT. So we send our gratitude, our thanks to Honorable Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, the MP for Salaga South, for this great work,” a resident of Salaga remarked.

A representative for Lepora’s Palace in Bembi commended the MP’s efforts as well, pointing out the advantages for the region’s agricultural output.

“You see, all this place is very good for dry season farming, for vegetables like tomatoes, okra, and even onions. And now that we have this, we’re very sure that in the dry season, we’ll get a lot of people around this area.”

In addition to fixing roads, Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah has worked on a number of other constituency projects, such as those pertaining to healthcare and education among others. Residents have commended her dedication, particularly considering that she is an opposition Member of Parliament.

“We’ve seen MPs upon MPs in Salaga South constituency, some who were regional ministers, some who were given very juicy positions, and we expected them to execute some of these projects. Unfortunately, they’ve not been able to live up to expectations. And for Hajia Zuwera, as an opposition MP, to start projects like this shows us she has the people at heart,” a resident commented.

The MP’s efforts have also improved telecommunications in the area, with residents expressing delight over improved network connectivity. “Sometimes we had to climb a tree to make a call. Our mother came here and assured us she’d come and give us a network. These days, we can be in the room to make a call,” a resident shared.

Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah’s efforts have also reached the Salaga Prison Service, where she has fulfilled her promise to upgrade the facilities used by prisoners concerning medical treatment. “Prior to the construction of this facility, access to healthcare was a challenge for the prison inmates. She promised to put up something of this nature to help them, and she’s been able to deliver,” another resident stated.
