Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region witnessed an intense showdown during the finals of the 2023 Kwahu West Science and Maths Quiz Competition, held at the Nkawkaw SDA Church.

On Tuesday 11th July 2023, as the competition drew to a close, St Anthony M/A JHS found themselves in the lead with 45 points, closely followed by Nsuta B M/A JHS with 43 points.

According to Agoo FM News, an intriguing incident took place involving Eric Tetteh, a 15-year-old contestant from Nsuta B M/A JHS.

Eric approached the Quiz Master directly, challenging him on a question that had been marked incorrectly. Eric firmly believed that his answer was correct and demanded the rightful point he deserved.

Despite initially dismissing Eric’s plea, the Quiz Master was soon compelled to pay attention when the determined young boy sought assistance from his teacher.

Eric’s teacher further elucidated his student’s argument, leading to a heated debate among the teachers, as well as representatives from St Anthony M/A JHS and Nsuta B M/A JHS, along with other coordinators.

Upon careful examination of the matter, it was unanimously concluded that an error had indeed occurred.

To rectify the situation, a mutual agreement was reached, resulting in 2 additional points being awarded to Nsuta B M/A JHS. With both schools tied at 45 points each, the Quiz Master presented a final challenge to determine the winner.

The Quiz Master instructed the two competitors to provide the full meaning of DNA, and Nsuta B M/A JHS responded promptly with the correct answer. As a result, the school emerged victorious in the 2023 Kwahu West Science and Maths Quiz Competition.

The competition, which began on May 23rd, 2023, featured 64 schools, with 16 of them qualifying for the semi-finals. From the semi-finals, four schools advanced to the final competition: Asona M/A JHS, St Anthony R/C JHS, Opinaman M/A JHS, and Nsuta B M/A JHS.

After an intense competition, Opinaman M/A JHS secured the 4th position with 16 points, Asona M/A JHS obtained the 3rd position with 17 points, St Anthony R/C JHS earned the 2nd position with 48 points, and Nsuta B M/A JHS emerged as the winner with 49 points.

In an interview with Agoo News, Hayford Awuah, the Education Director of Kwahu West Municipality, expressed his gratitude for the entire event and expressed hope that the upcoming years would be even more successful.

On his part, Bismark Amoafo, the Coordinator of the quiz competition, urged the various stakeholders to provide financial assistance to support these talented students in the future.

Eric Tetteh, a 15-year-old aspiring Medical Doctor, speaking to Ebenezer Kojo Nyavor (K-Lover) revealed that his dream school is Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC).

He acknowledged that Nsuta B M/A Junior High School (JHS) has exceptionally talented students, but the school lacks essential resources such as a library and a computer lab.

Eric appealed to the various stakeholders to extend their support to address these challenges.

Speaking in an interview with the Business Manager for Agoo FM, Kofi Wiafe Apenteng, he expressed that as the primary media partner for the event, they will continue to provide support as it aligns with their mission to serve the people in the region.

According to him, the radio station has allocated sufficient time during the Morning Show on Thursdays to discuss educational issues and engage various stakeholders.

Moving forward, they aspire to collaborate with all the districts in their coverage areas to organize similar quiz competitions, aiming to empower children for the future.

Kofi Wiafe Apenteng also took the opportunity to call upon individuals, businesspersons, churches, NGOs, politicians, and other stakeholders to join Agoo fm in advancing this cause.

He emphasized that collective efforts are essential in shaping the education sector, as the government alone cannot accomplish it.
