Parliament’s Appointments Committee will begin vetting seven nominees to the Supreme Court on Monday, June 16, 2025, as part of a three-day exercise to assess candidates nominated by President John Dramani Mahama in line with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
The nominees, drawn from the Court of Appeal, are being considered for elevation to the highest court of the land. They include:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
During the three-day process, the Appointments Committee will assess the legal knowledge, experience, character, and judicial philosophy of each nominee to determine their suitability for the apex court.
The vetting comes at a time when the judiciary is under increasing public scrutiny, and the outcome is expected to significantly shape the direction and credibility of Ghana’s Supreme Court in the years ahead.
