A fire outbreak that ravaged the housemaster’s residence at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua on Monday evening has been linked to an electrical fault, according to preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 PM, completely destroyed the building—damaging the roof, ceiling, furniture, home appliances, and the personal belongings of the housemaster and his family. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
GNFS officials say the fire is believed to have started from the ceiling of the building, where an electrical malfunction is suspected to have triggered the blaze.
“Our initial assessment points to an electrical fault in the ceiling as the likely source of the fire,” the GNFS said.
According to the Service, it received the emergency call at 6:24 PM and promptly dispatched two fire engines to the scene.
The first response team arrived within 10 minutes and battled the flames for nearly an hour—bringing the situation under control by 7:24 PM. Full extinguishment was recorded at 8:29 PM.
The swift response by firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby boys’ dormitory, which was located dangerously close to the burning residence.
