A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Theophilus Dzimega Jnr. Esq., has made appealed to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to prioritize national interest over political gain.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s Morning Show, GHToday, on Monday, April 20, 2026, the legal practitioner accused the opposition of “praying for the country to enter a pothole” just to have campaign talking points.
This attitude, he said, is a cynical approach to national challenges by the NPP, particularly regarding the energy sector and global economic pressures.
“When you wake up, pray for the good of the country. Don’t pray for the country to enter a pothole for you to have something to talk about,” Dzimega stated.
He cited the recent conflict involving Iran, USA and Israel as an example, claiming that while the NPP publicly expressed concern, they seemed to celebrate when the situation impacted local fuel prices.
“The moment fuel jumped a cedi, they said ‘it’s sweet’,” he remarked.
The NDC communicator also addressed the ongoing “Dumsor” debate, defending President John Dramani Mahama’s recent assertions in Tamale.
The President had clarified that current outages are due to the strategic replacement of old, worn-out transformers to ensure long-term stability.
Dzimega challenged the NPP to be patient rather than sounding premature alarms.
Dzimega expressed confidence that the NPP’s current strategy of highlighting temporary challenges would not sway the electorate. He insisted that the efforts being made to upgrade the power grid would eventually vindicate the President.
“Be rest assured that whatever has been used to campaign against Mahama would not work,” he declared.
