Supreme Court nominee Justice Senyo Dzamefe has called for judges to be subjected to the same asset declaration requirements as other public officials, in line with constitutional provisions promoting transparency and accountability in public service.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, Justice Dzamefe argued that members of the judiciary, as government appointees, should not be excluded from asset declaration obligations meant to curb corruption and abuse of office.
“If the law says all government appointees should declare their assets, and judges are government appointees, why not? They have to declare their assets,” he said.

His remarks echo the Mahama administration’s renewed push for integrity in public office. President John Dramani Mahama recently reiterated that any political appointee who fails to comply with the asset declaration deadline of May 7, would be dismissed from office.
Justice Dzamefe’s stance is likely to bolster public calls for increased transparency within the judiciary, especially amid growing concerns over potential conflicts of interest and accountability lapses.
Asset declaration has long been viewed as a key tool in building public trust and safeguarding the integrity of public institutions.
