Afrifanom Limited, one of Ghana’s leading home-grown firms with well-established roots in Information Technology, Content Aggregation and Big Data Management has presented cash prizes to the Best Graduating students of the Computer Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the university’s just ended 55th congregation.

The two recipients of the award, Miss Susan Tochukwu Anukem – the overall best female graduating student and Mr Frederick Obah Lateo – the overall best graduating student each received a cash prize of GHC 5000 and a one-year intensive national service opportunity with the firm.

Commenting on the presentation, The Chief Executive Officer of Afrifanom Limited, Nana Osei Afrifa remarked, “At Afrifanom, we believe that education remains the foundation of our society and a catalyst for Ghana’s development. It is clear that the country’s future economic development and prosperity is closely linked with our students’ success in the technology space as it is the main vehicle for innovation and industrial development in this data-driven world. This is the basis of our focus on supporting young students to strive for academic excellence to become great professionals.”

Congratulating the recipients, Nana Osei Afrifa added that the beneficiaries represent the future and hope of Ghana with the potential to make changes in the future information technology field. He challenged the students to make worthwhile the efforts and investment being made in their future.

Professor Leonard Amekudzi – Provost of College of Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in a brief remark commended Afrifanom Limited for instituting the award scheme, adding that it is a step in the right direction. He, therefore, called on corporate bodies to extend internship opportunities to more students to further the cause of bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Head of Computer Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Professor James Hayfron-Acquah noted that the department is committed to formalising relationships with corporate bodies such as Afrifanom that enhances the quality of education, promotion of inclusion and diversity, and the growth of the information technology industry. He assured Afrifanom that the Computer Science Department is strategically positioned more than ever to be the hub for the training of IT professionals in Ghana.

The award scheme is expected to run for the next few years and is aligned with Afrifanom’s aim of supporting the long-term socio-economic growth of Ghana.

Afrifanom Group is a Pan-African firm made up of 3 subsidiaries with well-established roots in Software Development, Content Aggregation and Agribusiness.
