The Ministry of Education in Ghana has announced the launch of Subject-Specific Artificial Intelligence (AI) Apps aimed at transforming Senior High School (SHS) education.
This was announced in a statement signed on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
According to the Ministry, the apps are designed to enhance the delivery of the new SHS curriculum, supporting over 68,000 teachers in instructing more than 1.4 million learners while upholding Ghana’s ethical and cultural values.
The apps are built on Ghanaian curriculum materials, including teacher manuals, learner resources, and frameworks emphasizing national values, gender equality, and social inclusion.
A portion of the statement noted, “The design of Apps, which aim to support over 68,000 teachers in delivering the new curriculum to over 1.4 million learners, was co-created by the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), the National Teaching Council (NTC), the National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) and the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS) and Playlab Al with support from Transforming Teaching, Education & Learning (T-TEL) and Mastercard Foundation.”
The rollout will be integrated into weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions across all 712 SHSs, providing teachers with opportunities to collaborate, test the apps, and offer feedback, ensuring that AI tools complement rather than replace teacher expertise.
A four-phase testing process has been established to guarantee effectiveness and appropriateness.
This includes technical accuracy checks to align with curriculum content, reviews of educational quality and pedagogical soundness, user experience testing in pilot schools, and regional trials to assess readiness for broader implementation.
The initiative is scheduled for nationwide rollout in October 2025, accompanied by training for over 7,800 school-based facilitators.
The Ministry emphasized that the program is locally led, ethically grounded, and focused on supporting teachers to improve learning outcomes for all students.
